Hybrid fashion production house and fashion show producer Runway 7 showcased the latest in emerging and established designers this past September for Spring/Summer 2024. Runway 7 runs in parallel to New York Fashion Week and for this season, they expanded their lineup with 100+ designers spread out into an amazing 4-day weekend. We’ve got the rundown on the latest in emerging designers, kids and teen fashion, bridal and more of our favorites from Runway 7 this season.
This season, Runway 7 hosted several designer showcases showing fresh talent and new faces to the Sony Hall stage. Here is a recap on the latest kids, teens and young adult fashion set for next Spring Summer 2024.
köttkömm
Köttkömm is a ready-to-wear apparel company founded by designer Kathy Harris. By combining classic 60’s Mod with a modern metropolitan twist, kottkömm offers a distinct feminine look that could appeal to audiences from 18 to 81.
Köttkömm’s SS2024 collection was filled with retro flare containing an assortment of wide a-line dresses and feminine detailing such as bows, lace and ruffles.
A key feature of the dresses was the obvious pockets that added utility in a charming way. The collection also reinforced the pattern of Spring/Summer 2024’s of polka dots with its circle patterning seen across several pieces.
Kathy Harris, is all at once an ex-telecommunications manager, real-estate agent, and fashion designer. In an effort to create clothing she herself was looking for, Kathy used her sewing skills learned from her mother to transform classic men’s textiles into fashionable, timeless pieces.
In 2018 she won the Emerging Designer competition at Greenville Fashion Week, helping her create a 12 piece collection in 2019. The South Carolina native, also manufactures and produces her pieces in her home state, making Kottkomm a fully USA made brand.
Compton Kidz Club
Youth mentorship group, Compton Kidz Club, collaborated with designer Jacob Meir of For The Stars Fashion House on designing an ecstatic collection for young adults. The showcase was produced by Ruby Enriquez, who was a Compton Kidz Club member herself, under their new modeling agency Compton Modeling Agency.
The collection contained a mix of apparel from casual to couture. Models came out in dresses and jeans as well as hybrid-length jackets and flared-out skirts, all with a bright and bold colour palette and intricately placed gemstones and beadwork.
A particularly standout piece was a red vinyl outfit. The beaded cropped top had pointed shoulders with a scaled texture while the bottom led to a red train with peacock feathers.
Compton Kids Club was founded by Fred Martin, a Compton native who used his expertise, talents and passion to form mentorship pathways for under-served youths. This new endeavor with CMA is to provide a way for young adults to chase their dreams where money does not have to be an issue.
Designer Jacob Meir, who worked with stars such as Whitney Houston Jennifer Lopez, and Paula Abdul, decided to work with Martin and Ruby because of his own upbringing in Jerusalem stating in an interview that he is from “the Compton of Israel ” and that Compton is like his backyard. By helping create the collection with Compton Kidz Club, he is furthering his mission to help kids all over the world who may be starting their journey like he did.
Chick
Trendy teen fashion brand Chick, returned this fall with their latest collection for Spring Summer 2024. This season they opted for a focus in cropped tops and baggy pants in a muted color tone. The variety of cropped tops came in collared shirts, polos, and printed tanks.
The showcase also included light outerwear with a drawstring cinched jacket and a cropped varsity vest.
Chick consistently brings their particular style of cute, comfy and sexy apparel for teens and young adults. The brand is highly informed by the models who wear their clothing. This clearly shows in their choices of designs and apparel offerings. It is nice to see a brand made by the individuals it is designed for.
House of Barretti
High fashion labeling brand, House of Barretti, showed audiences their latest collection of suits and sportswear for teens and young adults. This year they took their classic colour palette of pinks, whites and blacks and focused on mono-textured luxury pieces for their collection.
Their sportswear pieces focused on elevated jumpsuits. Materials were sparkly, ruffled and with jeweled embellishments. Cutouts on the sides were also added, creating a subtly sexy element for an otherwise high coverage outfit.
Models were accompanied by large fluffy coats that added both luxury and comfort to the set. The House of Barretti skirt suits also made their appearance with wide pockets, large gold buttons, and classic tweed material.
A House of Barretti showcase would not be complete without performers and serious girl power attitude. They definitely delivered with high-energy singing to start the show and a model walking out with wings a la “Victoria Secret”.
Peach and Penny
Kids and teens fashion brand Peach and Penny delivered a sweetly romantic set for Runway 7 audiences. The collection was classic princess attire for petite personnel.
The showcase consisted of dresses in various shapes including fitted, caftan, ball gown and empire. Pinks, purples and petticoats dominated the collection.
It looked like a fairytale on the runway, with tulle and shimmer attire on smiling cherubic faces. Floral embellishments were a final touch, creating the imagery of children in a flower field.
Peach and Penny is designed by Colorado-based Katie Andelman, with all pieces being hand sewn couture apparel. The showcase for Peach and Penny was a true delight for audiences at Sony Hall to watch as the models from Katie Andelman Models perfectly portrayed the youthful, whimsical nature of the brand.
Ydamys Simo
Ydamys Simo returned from last fall’s Runway 7 showcases to bring us their latest in resort wear. The apparel in this year’s collection contained their particular style of satin based materials and floral patterning. However, for this year, Ydamys Simo opted for a lighter colour palette with light blues, yellows and whites.
Dresses had a wide flare to them, creating a powerful, awe inspiring effect. The romance was seen with bandeaus being paired with off shoulder puffed sleeves and dresses with sheer bodice boning and ruffles.
The Ydamys Simo showcase also included some evening wear with rhinestones, mesh detailing, and high leg openings.
Models also displayed the work of Colombian luxury jewelry brand Vizcarra, with dazzling, jeweled earrings seen from across the room
The key effect that Ydamys Simo’s collection had came from their choice of textiles. The lighter florals gave a more subdued gentle feeling to the warm weather wear. With the sheer white floral bodice, it was very fitting that this display was called the “Allure Collection”.
