I appreciate art. However, creating visual art is another thing altogether. So when I stumbled upon BFA artist Allison Crary’s wall art painting kits, I was intrigued. After looking over the numerous Painting4Real painting kits that were available, I decided to give Crary’s Water Lilies Abstract Painting Kit a trial run.
A nice aspect of the modestly priced Water Lilies Painting Kit is that it saved me from embarking on an expensive trip to the art store where I would likely purchase the wrong art supplies. The kit contained an 8×10” canvas suitable for oil and acrylic painting, five acrylic paints, an outline of water lilies, graphite paper for tracing, and a paint palette. The only items I needed to provide was a pencil for tracing an outline on the canvas, tape to hold the graphite paper in place on the canvas, and a rag, cup of water, and soap for clean-up.The two videos lessons and the entire process of creating the Water Lilies painting lasted for around two hours.
The Aftermath
Did my painting look like the Water Lilies painting on Painting4Real’s website when it was completed? Nope. The colors in my painting were a lot darker and the water lilies were less defined. Also, there were less water lilies in my painting and a lot more water. However, the differences were expected and encouraged. Throughout the lesson, Crary made it clear that variation was expected and that it was a good thing.
Did I enjoy the lesson and learn a lot about painting? Absolutely!
My Next Step-By-Step Painting Adventure
Overall, painting wall art using the Water Lillies Abstract Painting Kit was a relaxing and gratifying experience. I’m looking forward to further honing my painting skills with Painting4Real’s Orange Tree Painting Kit, pictured below.
