A Guide To The Perfect Slicked-Back Bun

The slicked-back bun is a classic hairstyle that exudes elegance and sophistication. Whether you’re heading to a formal event or simply want a polished look for everyday wear, mastering the art of the slicked-back bun is essential. Lately I’ve been using a few key products to achieve my perfect slicked-back bun look.

Nicky Clarke Hair Raising Spray

The first step in creating my perfect slicked-back bun is prepping my hair. I love using the Nicky Clarke Hair Raising Spray for volume since my hair is quite thin. My favorite part of this spray is that I can use it on damp OR dry hair and it gives me volume and shine from my roots to ends.

Next, I section my hair into manageable sections. This makes my styling process easier and ensures a sleek finish.

Oribe Rock Hard Gel

Then I apply the Oribe Rock Hard Gel. This gel contains light-reflecting particles, hair-strengthening compounds and it sets to a lacquered finish, ensuring my hair stays in place in whatever style I decide to go with that day. I squeeze a small amount of the gel onto my fingertips and distribute throughout my hair – particularly around the base by my ears where I know my baby hairs like to sneak out.T his gel slicks down hair and creates a smooth base for the perfect bun. It works so well, even my boyfriend uses it to get his slicked back hair look for in-office work days.

After using enough gel for my roots to start looking sleek, I part my hair and then use a boar bristle brush to smooth my hair back and create a low or high ponytail, depending on the bun I’m going for.

Next, I twist the length of my ponytail and coil the twisted hair around the base to create the bun. I secure the coiled hair with bobby pins and/or a hair tie and a little more gel to smooth any hair in the bun.

Bondi Boost Anti-Frizz Flyaway

Finally, I use the Bondi Boost Anti-Frizz Flyaway Wand to tame any remaining flyaways or baby hairs. This wand has become my secret hair weapon, I literally keep it with me in my work bag always. It’s the ideal tool to use for those hairs that just won’t stay down, keeping the frizz down all day. It’s truly the perfect addition to any hairstyle for a complete and polished look.
