The Whimsical Sushi Wonderland That Is Sushidelic

Sushi lovers will revel in the artful whimsy and delectable fresh offerings at Sushidelic, located downtown at 177 Lafayette Street, near Broome Street in Soho. The entire restaurant is an eye-popping work of art, bathed in a lavender glow, with enormous floating kitten heads hanging from the ceiling, an automated conveyer-belt serving line that features sushi towers, glittery platform shoes, the cocktail you ordered, and other entrancing offerings. The friendly hostess, adorned in fairyland clothing reminiscent of a medieval princess in a manga comic, will provide you with a Polaroid picture of yourself at the end of your meal.

Sushidelic is far more than a sushi place; it’s an immersive, colorful Kawaii experience that blends Hawaiian and Japanese cultures to create something completely unique.

Just a year old last month, Sushidelic is the enthralling brainchild of Japanese multi-discipline artist Sebastian Masuda, also noted for his his 2015 nine-foot tall Hello Kitty time capsule installed at Dag Hammerskjold Plaza. His creative vision is paired with those of chefs Hiroki Abe (EN Japanese Brasserie, Eleven Madison Park), Kyle G. Puchir (Eleven Madison Park, Restaurant Daniel, Reina Tange).

I was reminded of High Tea upon viewing Sushidelic’s Sushi Tower for two. Presented on a three-tier stacked tower, the Sushi Tower contains: Tier one – Chirashi Parfait, Tier 2 – fresh seasonal Sashimi assortment, Tier 3 – Delic roll assortment. (California, Vegetable, Wagyu Uni, Special Salmon, Wasabi Avocado, Eel). It is definitely sufficient for two people.
