Before I went to Wink Bar, I was hesitant to try eyelash extensions, thinking that mascara was enough. My meeting with Joslin Wang, the founder of Wink Bar, really opened my eyes to how lash extensions can transform your face.
Wink Bar recently held a relaunch and rebranding event to highlight its emphasis on creating a sanctuary for wellness, and an atmosphere where customers feel pampered as well as heard as individuals. The new space is calming and soothing, and feels more like you are entering someone’s living room. By the way, the bathroom is also an unexpected oasis of calm. When you visit Wink Bar, you will have a consultation with Wang or her staff about what you want to achieve from your lash extensions. The process is based on lash design as an art, considering facial symmetry and the shape of your eyes. If, like me, you have no idea what you want, Wang helps you decide, and explains the process in detail. She showed me pictures and explained that based on my eye shape, she would combine looks to help open my eyes, and still achieve a natural look.
To begin, you lie down on a table in a small, private, curtained room, and your lashes are cleaned. Next, while keeping your eyes closed, the area around your upper and lower lids are covered. In my case, Wang meticulously applied lashes to one eye at a time. The treatment takes approximately 30-40 minutes. At the end, I expected my eyelids to feel some extra weight or somehow unnatural, but they did not. The lashes looked amazing and felt so light and fluffy, I could hardly believe they were not mine!
Wang is truly an artist, and designs your eyelashes to perfectly fit your face. Her attention to detail is incomparable and really makes the difference between lashes that look natural and ones that scream fake. She personally trains her staff to ensure that they customize each client’s lashes to suit their unique features.
Once your beautiful eyelashes are applied, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions. Wang explained that I should not wet my lashes for 48 hours, even though the instructions state 24 hours. The additional time helps the lashes last longer. She also recommended just brushing them in the morning. No mascara is needed. In addition, it is important not to rub your eyes.
The lashes last 3-4 weeks but Wang recommends coming in for touch ups at the two-week period, to extend their longevity. After living with my new lashes for a while, I noticed that it was an adjustment to remember not to rub my eyes, so be careful the first few days. In addition, if you wear contact lenses, be gentle when removing and putting them in, so as not to tug on the lashes.
Being more careful is a small price to pay for the benefit of having these lashes. I am hooked, and highly recommend that you try them, especially if you have a special occasion. They say that eyebrows transform the face, but I know now that eyelashes are just as important.
