This month I had the privilege to chat with Kim McIver, the ambitious CEO of global lash brand Sugarlash PRO. Known for its high quality and innovative products, Sugarlash Pro has steadily emerged as a leader, specifically within the realm of eyelash application. With over 25 years of expertise in the beauty industry, McIver has seen it all. In this interview she brings us into the wonderful world of eyelash extensions and how she came into her current position.
Thank you so much for joining us! We would like to know more about you. Please tell us about your background and what brought you to this specific career path?
My career path has taken some unexpected turns, but a chance suggestion during my time in the restaurant industry led me to explore aesthetics, a field I never imagined for myself. I was always a girly-girl type, so it made sense to pursue a career in aesthetics. While initially drawn to the aesthetic aspect of providing a service that made my clients feel confident and beautiful, I quickly discovered my talents for building relationships and generating sales. Recognizing my potential for a broader impact, I proactively pursued education in operations and marketing, developing a well-rounded skill set. I find immense satisfaction in helping clients feel confident and beautiful, while also strategically growing a business. My passion for this industry is my driving force. It’s a feeling hard to put into words, but those in the industry understand. I approach every task with dedication and a results-focused mindset, committed to giving my all in everything I do. You either have it or you don’t. And I have it. I do everything 100% or not at all.
Lash extensions and lifts are all the rage now. For someone just starting to add lashes to their beauty repertoire, what would you recommend?
I recommend researching the artist online or on Instagram to ensure their styling aligns with your preferences for lash extensions. If you’re unsure, consider starting with a lash lift and a few extensions, a service we call a “glam lift.” This approach allows you to try the service gradually. Everyone has their own unique style, so we recommend doing a ton of research on lash styles, lash services, and understanding the process as you research lash artists. Applying fake eyelashes can be daunting for some of us. What is the best way to make sure we apply our lashes correctly and that they stay put?
Before beginning the application process, choose clusters that blend seamlessly with your natural lashes, prioritizing lightweight options for comfortable, long-lasting wear. Once you’ve found lashes you like, thoroughly cleanse your lashes before applying and invest in a professional sealant to maximize longevity. Attach the clusters underneath your lash line, positioning the base just above for a natural look. Working in the beauty industry for so many years, do you have any top beauty tips or advice?
Three liters of water, healthy hair, a great red lip! Never underestimate what water can do to improve your overall appearance and general health. By now, we all know we probably don’t drink enough water, so I’ve made conscious choices to ensure I drink my daily three liters. Healthy hair and a great red lip have always been my keys to confidence, it’s amazing what these two things can do for you when you’re walking into a boardroom. Be authentic and happy. This does wonders for your overall appearance.
